Top 10 Questions for Kathi Brown
•Where are you from?
◦I grew up in Minnesota... about 3 blocks from Fargo, ND. I moved to New Mexico in 1994 but have also lived in New York (Long Island) and Indiana.
•Did you go to college?
◦Yes. I went to college in Minnesota. I always thought I wanted to be a newspaper reporter so I studied journalism. Along the way I was also interested in criminal justice so I graduated with two separate degrees. Best seven years of my life!
•Are you married?
◦Yep. Keith is from Dallas, TX. We got married in Las Vegas, Nevada in 2002. He keeps me sane... or insane... depending on the day of the week! :)
•Do you have kids?
◦Zack and Zane are twins born in 2007. They are my little miracles!
•What do you wish you knew in high school that you know now?
◦I wish knew then that I didn't have to be popular to be happy, that only good friends matter. And I didn't have to date the high school football quarterback to fall in love, that came a long later. I just needed to be who I was, and I would have been a whole lot happier.
•What is your worst habit?
◦I am easily distracted so I tend to be late for things. I really, really, really try to be on time.
•Who is your best friend?
◦Friendships are so important for everyone, but especially for girls. Leigh has been my friend since 8th grade and I even kidnapped her to move to New Mexico with me. My other good friends make me smile just thinking about them!
•If you weren't working with teenage girls, what would you be doing?
◦Love to open a children's bookstore. It sounds like a lot of fun!
•What other jobs have you had?
◦In high school and college I have worked as a fast food clerk, pizza delivery, hotel housekeeper, a nanny, waitress, environmental activist and an answering service phone operator. I also have washed dishes at Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu (my favorite job!). After college, I worked doing health insurance, work at a domestic violence shelter and a teen group home, Girl Scouts and finally my work at the Commission on the Status of Women.
• If a movie was made about your life, what would the title be?
"Always Assume They Can See Your Socks"
